4 Things to Know: Airport Hotels Near Peter Motley Oval
Australia›4 Things to Know: Airport Hotels Near Peter Motley Oval
Jun 19, 2026 · Updated Oct 31, 2026
Four airport-side hotels near Peter Motley Oval, Adelaide, from Glenelg to Tonsley: walk times, parking and gig dates worth knowing before you book.
Here's what you need to know: four hotels, two zones, one real decision. Glenelg gives you the beach and the tram. The Tonsley and Marion side gives you parking and the train. I scout bases the way I used to walk a garden: by how I'll actually move through it.
Airport Runs: The Numbers That Matter
Adelaide Airport is about 6 km west of the CBD. Your base is really a tram-or-car choice.
Airport buses J1 and J2 run through the city. Tap on with a bank card; no cash on board, per Adelaide Metro.
Taxi or rideshare to the CBD takes 15-25 minutes. Glenelg is about 10-15 minutes by taxi.
My scouting rule from years of walking sites early: choose the base by movement, not by the pool. Wider net? Try the full list of Adelaide hotels and apartments.
Glenelg Is the Beach Backdrop
The tram runs straight down Jetty Road. It stops a few metres from the sand at Moseley Square, roughly 30 minutes from the CBD.
This is where South Australia began. The colony was proclaimed at Glenelg on 28 December 1836, and a ceremony still marks it at the Old Gum Tree.
Moseley Square has the Victorian Town Hall. It houses the Bay Discovery Centre, and the first jetty opened in 1859.
I'd walk Glenelg on a weekday morning. Summer evenings get busy, per the local notes.
Pick for Beach Mornings: Sea-View Rooms in Glenelg
Dolphin cruises leave from the Holdfast Shores marina. Temptation Sailing has run licensed swim and watch trips since 2002. They are seasonal, so book ahead.
Patrolled beach rule: swim between the red and yellow flags.
1
The George
From AU$163
The George: a 2-minute walk to Glenelg Beach, 7 km from the airport. It's my pick for a two-night beach base. You give up a short CBD hop and take the tram instead. Per the property: family rooms with sea views and balconies, minibar, free WiFi, a lift, concierge, tour desk and private parking, with breakfast on offer. Where to stay in Glenelg

Jetty Road Shopping, One Tower Up
Jetty Road is lined with shops, cafés and gelaterias. The stretch of tram line there is a free section.
The Glenelg tram is the only survivor of Adelaide's original network. It opened in 1873 and has run electric since December 1929.
As a scout, I like a base that makes the commute part of the view. This one does.
2
Atlantic Tower Motor Inn
From AU$130
Atlantic Tower Motor Inn: under 10 minutes' walk to Jetty Road. Stay here for the round-tower views over Adelaide city; you trade beach-step convenience for a short stroll. Per the property: free WiFi, free off-street parking, air-conditioned rooms with a seating area and cable TV, some with private balconies or a spa bath, and a 30-minute Glenelg Tram ride to the city. South-West Side: Drive to the Big Venues
Adelaide Oval RoofClimb takes about 2 hours. The Riverbank platform is about 50 m above the turf. Book online; age and health rules apply.
The Bradman Collection is free. It sits in the Riverbank Stand; register at Concierge. It's closed on event days.
The Oval is card-only. Cash can be swapped for a prepaid card at Concierge, per the venue.
My tip: if you're driving, the south-west base saves city parking stress.
3
Marion Holiday Park
From AU$231
Marion Holiday Park: 10 minutes' walk to Tonsley Railway Station. Stay here for space and a kitchen; you trade the beach for a pool. Per the property: Adelaide Convention Centre and Adelaide Oval are both within 20 minutes' drive. Cottages, villas and studios have cooking facilities and free on-site parking. There are two pools, a jumping pillow, tennis, a fitness centre and a games room. Tripadvisor ↗

Tonsley Base: Airport Runs and Pandas
Adelaide Zoo has two giant pandas. Yi Lan and Xing Qiu are the only pair in the southern hemisphere. Tickets are online, and a keeper experience is bookable.
Haigh's Chocolates runs free factory tours. They are on Greenhill Road, Parkside, and need booking.
Both are easy car trips. If you're flying in late, a short airport hop matters more than a view.
4
Mantra Tonsley Adelaide
From AU$143
Mantra Tonsley Adelaide: 9 km from Adelaide Airport. Stay here for kitchenettes and parking; you trade the sea for suburban calm. Per the property: family rooms with balconies and kitchenettes, a restaurant and bar, a coffee shop, bicycle parking and luggage storage. Free on-site and off-site parking, with breakfast listed. Botanic Garden: The Scout's Green Backdrop
The Adelaide Botanic Garden is free and open daily. It covers about 50 hectares at the end of the North Terrace tram line.
The Bicentennial Conservatory closes at 2 pm on forecast 36 °C days. It stays shut all day at 40 °C or more, per the garden.
Free guided walks last about 1.5 hours. They leave from the Schomburgk Pavilion, no booking needed.
I miss the daily rounds from my garden years. Come early in summer.
Hills Gardens: Seasons Are Patterns, Not Promises
Mount Lofty Botanic Garden is free. It's best in spring for rhododendrons and magnolias, with autumn colour too. Treat these as patterns, not guarantees.
Morialta's waterfalls suit winter to spring. That's when the falls run.
Cleland closes on Catastrophic fire-danger days. Check before you drive up.
The Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium SA office can confirm what's in leaf.
Gig Calendar: Late 2026 to January 2027
Less Than Jake, 31 October 2026. Hindley St Music Hall, 6 pm.
Killswitch Engage with Sylosis, 12 November. Hindley St Music Hall, 7 pm. Des Bishop plays Norwood Concert Hall the same night.
Richard Dawkins, 13 November. Thebarton Theatre, 7 pm. The Church plays there on 28 November.
A Perfect Circle, 4 December, The Drive. Wolf Alice, 6 December, Hindley St. Beartooth, 26 January 2027, Thebarton.
Grand Final Weekend and Mad March: Book Early
bp Adelaide Grand Final runs 26-29 November 2026. Guns N' Roses close it on Sunday 29 November. The East Park Lands see closures and noise, and hotels fill.
Adelaide Fringe: 19 February - 21 March 2027. WOMADelaide follows on 5-8 March in Botanic Park. My advice: lock your room first, then browse South Australia hotels and apartments.
The Question Visitors Always Asked Me on the Path
"Is the glasshouse open today?" It depends on the forecast, per the garden's heat rule: 36 °C means a 2 pm close.
Who to ask: the visitor centre at the Schomburgk Pavilion, run by the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium SA. Ask whether the conservatory is open, when the free walk leaves, and what's in leaf this week.
I always asked the desk before the path. It saved me wasted trips.
Sign-Off: Your Next Things to Check
Check the Adelaide Metro journey planner before you travel. Check the day's fire-danger rating before Cleland or Mount Lofty.
My final pick: The George for the beach, Mantra Tonsley if you're driving in late. Prices and availability can change, so confirm when booking. See you at the next update.
What's on and where to stay near Fountain Park, Edinburgh: 2026-27 gig dates, the airport tram timetable, three shortlisted bases and the 5% visitor levy.
Six airport-side and Powai Lake hotels near Dr L.H. Hiranandani Hospital - distances, shuttles, festival weeks and the seasons that suit a quiet work trip.
