Since this new career began some twenty years ago he has traveled the world performing stand up and I WAS A TEENAGE RACIST was one of his many acclaimed Edinburgh shows. He is now seen more often on TV than on stage. As well as appearing in all the hit panel games he writes half of them and is about to start the next series of HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU straight after finishing the latest series of NEVER MIND THE BUZZCOCKS. He has also written on a host of other programmes recently ranging from the BBC SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR to THE COMEDY AWARDS. In the theatre he has co-written a history of the Old Vic with Kevin Spacey and directed Arthur Smith's DANTE'S INFERNO. You will also see Kevin most weeks on BBC2 presenting the filmed inserts on MATCH OF THE DAY 2, and he is a regular voice on Radio 4 and 5Live where he is regular guest on THE SIMON MAYO SHOW and part of BBC 5 Live's coverage of the Cheltenham Festival. That coverage won a Sony Gold Award and Kevin has also won the Time Out Comedy Award, a Writers' Guild award (for his work with Dave Allen) and the one he is most proud of, the 2007 ProMax award for Best Interstitials for a series of Christmas promos on More4 featuring a very grumpy Santa.

John Hegley

description :
John Hegley was born in North London and was educated in Luton, Bristol and Bradford. His first public performance monies were accrued from busking his songs, initially outside a shoe shop in Hull in the late Seventies. He performed on the streets of London in the early eighties, fronting the Popticians with whom he also recorded two sessions for John Peel. He has since performed his words sung and spoken across the network for BBC radio. He has produced 10 books of verse and prose pieces, two CDs and one mug, but his largest source of income is from stages on his native island. He is an Edinburgh festival regular. He has produced material about dog hair, potatoes and handkerchiefs in a philosophical framework. He is an occasional dancer on stage and page, you might say. Also a workshop leader using drawing, poetry and gesture. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Arts from what is now the University of Bedfordshire and once performed in a womens' prison in Columbia with his daughter's godfather, Nigel.
